About the Author — Lieutenant-General A.I. Akram (1923–1989)

Agha Ibrahim Akram, better known as A.I. Akram, was a Pakistani Lieutenant-General, historian, diplomat, and scholar — one of the most dedicated researchers of early Islamic military history of the 20th century.

His life and achievements speak for themselves:

• ⚔️ His debut work, The Sword of Allah (1970), took five years of research, including personal visits to battlefields across Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Iraq, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia
• 📖 The Sword of Allah has been published in two English editions and translated into Urdu, Arabic, German, and Bahasa
• 🎖️ For several years it was compulsory reading in the Pakistan Army for entrance to the Staff College, and featured on the leadership syllabus of the Malaysian Army
• 🌍 The Muslim Conquest of Persia followed four years later, after battlefield visits across Iran and extensive discussions with Iranian scholars
• 📜 His third book, The Muslim Conquest of Egypt and North Africa, took another four years of research and visits to Egypt and Tunisia
• 🕌 His final work, The Rise of Cordoba, was published in 1986
• 🏛️ He served as Pakistan's Ambassador to Spain and founded the Institute of Regional Studies in 1982, serving as its president until his passing in 1989
